Here at Raj of Kensington we bring you some of the finest regional cuisines of India with dishes made popular during the Raj era.
The British Raj (Raj meaning “rule” in Hindi) was the rule of Great Britain in the Indian Subcontinent between 1858 and 1947, predominantly under Queen Victoria – Empress of India. The British Raj encompassed almost all present-day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Raj may have ended many years ago, but The British East India Company ensured that the best of India was introduced to the UK and love for Indian cuisine ensued!
Restaurant owner, Salim Sheikh, has a background in fine dining. His favourite subject at school was history, specifically the British Raj. Salim is excited to bring dishes of this era to London.
